The Roodepoort Police did a great job during their recent special operation, conducting numerous stop-and-searches in the Roodepoort precinct.
As stated in the police report, the successful operation took place between 5 and 11 April, and resulted in 71 suspects aged between 18 and 60 being arrested for various crimes. All suspects will appear, or have already appeared, in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.
The Roodepoort Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit also reported the following convictions:
• Roodepoort – assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm; the accused was fined R6 000 or 12 months’ imprisonment;
• Roodepoort – rape, kidnapping and robbery; the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment;
• Diepsloot – rape and kidnapping; the accused was sentenced to nine months imprisonment;
• Diepsloot – rape; the accused was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment;
• Roodepoort – rape and kidnapping; the accused was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment, with five years suspended for five years;
• Diepsloot – rape; the accused received 12 years’ imprisonment;
• Diepsloot – rape and assault with the intention to commit grievous bodily harm; the accused was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment;
• Diepsloot – rape and assault with the intention to commit grievous bodily harm; the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment on both counts;
• Diepsloot – rape; the accused was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment;
• Diepsloot – sexual assault; the accused was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment;
• Diepsloot – rape; the accused was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The members of the Johannesburg West Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit work long hours to ensure that the seven stations in the Johannesburg West District, namely, Douglasdale, Randburg, Linden, Florida, Diepsloot, Honeydew and Roodepoort are covered and that the suspects are brought to justice.
