Overindulging this Easter? These tips might help you through

People tend to eat and drink a lot more during Easter which can leave you bloated, hungover and feeling really sick.

You cannot believe you ate that whole thing, and now you are paying for it with a burning sensation in your chest and a bitter taste in the back of your throat.

People tend to eat and drink alcohol a lot more during the holidays, without thinking of the consequences.

Here are some tips that will help to heal your stomach after overindulging:

• You should stay upright for three to four hours after overeating. Eating more than your stomach can comfortably hold means there is nowhere for gastric acid to go but to rise, into your oesophagus.

• Do not do anything energetic. Bouncing around could cause gastric acids to slosh up into the throat, resulting in heartburn. Taking a 30-minute walk instead could help to neutralise the situation.

• Avoid most antacids. Antacids, which neutralise the existing stomach acids, actually cause the stomach to produce more acid.

And here are some tips for relieving that hangover resulting from overindulging in alcohol:

• Drink plenty of water. Water can help to flush toxins, including excess sugar, from the body.

• Eat bland carbohydrates. Toast is the perfect thing to soothe an upset stomach.

• Take a pain reliever. Aspirin or ibuprofen is perfect for hangover headaches. Avoid paracetamol, as it can cause liver damage when used in conjunction with alcohol.
