The Community Safety Voluntary Association (CSVA) has made cleaning up the streets to promote living in a healthy environment its responsibility.
Project Clean-Up made a visible impact in Horison when the volunteers cleaned up the streets, sidewalks, parks and certain areas within the community.
Residents of Horison have encountered problems with bushy areas where criminals hide before attacking passers-by.
Abby Lerm, Director of CSVA said, “As a community, we decided to take back our streets and make the changes needed to ensure our safety and security. We had several problem areas in our community that criminals used as hiding and sleeping places, because they were not being maintained. Various elderly members have come to appreciate us for cleaning up the area because they were previously attacked in violent house robberies,” Abby added.
Abby also explained that the residents will feel much safer and children now have a cleaner, safer park to play in.
“In a clean, safe environment there is no place for criminals to hide. Our aim is to keep our area clean and crime-free, and also to look out for one another.”
Abby appreciated the high numbers of community members at the drive, but said they need more hands as there is still a lot of work to be done.
