Ons Huis golf day cut short due to weather, but much-needed money raised

The golf day was sadly cut short by the bad weather that rolled in at about 4pm.

Eagle Canyon Golf Estate played host to Residentia Ons Huis’ charity golf day on Tuesday, 9 April, raising some much-needed money for the old age home.

Residentia has provided care for the senior residents of Florida and the West Rand at large for 52 years, since 1967. Until March 2007, the home operated under the umbrella of the Sinodale Deputate Diakonale Sake (SDDS) of the Reformed Churches in South Africa, but on 1 April 2008, Ons Huis (Our Home) was taken over by the Residentia Foundation (now Residentia), which has remained the owner for the last 11 years.

The level of care provided by Ons Huis often requires significant funding, funding that doesn’t necessarily come easy in the tough financial times the country finds itself in. In an effort to make things a little financially easier for themselves, Ons Huis opted to hold a golf day at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate.

With a field of about 50 golfers, the day teed off at 11.30am as they set out to put their best golf on show in support of the old age home. Unfortunately for the golfers their day was cut short at about 4pm, when bad weather began rolling in and they were ushered off the course due to lightning. They were still able to tally up the scores and determine winners however, and these were announced at the prize-giving that evening, which also saw the auctioning off of numerous items to raise more money.
