Planning life after football
One of the participants, Coach Fanie Dlamini, reflected on the course and its importance to their youngsters.
The importance of education and planning for a life after a football career was the basis of a workshop course called ‘My Future’, which saw numerous Golden Drifters Football Club players being empowered recently.
This six-week-long course, which was held at Emthonjeni Community Centre in Zandspruit, and hosted by Umsizi and Impophomo, a non-profit organisation, saw players from the SAB side of the club receive certificates after completing the course which left them full of ideas and benefits.
One of the participants, coach Fanie Dlamini, reflected on the course and its importance for their youngsters. “The course was basically about teaching the boys how to start their own businesses from scratch. They were also taught how to plan for the future and the importance of having a plan of action for after the end of their football careers,” he explained.
Some of the players come from communities that are plagued by social ills, and Dlamini pointed out that the course also touched on the importance of staying away from drugs.
The president of the club, Proud Shoko, congratulated all his players for their achievements during the course. “This was the third course to benefit Golden Drifters players this season. It’s part of our plan to make sure that player education, not only football, is prioritised,” he stated.
