HKA fighters shine at Great North tournament

They bagged a total of four medals

Three fighters from the Honour Kickboxing (HKA) Club competed in the recent Great North 1 tournament that took place in Pretoria.

The fighters had to dig deep and work hard in the ring and on the mat, but, at the end of the day, they had a total of four medals to show for their hard work – two silver and two bronze.

Antoinette Visser, HKA instructor, said, “Britney Swarts, who is one of our youngest fighters at eight years old, exceeded my expectations at the tournament when she won two silver medals. She has a lot of potential and is willing to learn something new every day. Sixteen-year-old Ryan Boshoff is always training and is currently one of the club’s best fighters. He had three very difficult fights, but never gave up and was rewarded with a bronze medal.”

She added that Jerome Oberholzer, one of the club’s senior fighters, also managed to bag a bronze

medal. “Jerome will be grading for his black belt in November, and always gives 100 per cent during training.”

She concluded by saying, “I am extremely proud of all the fighters who participated and know that they

will do even better at the next tournament. The only thing they need to do is keep up the hard work and dedication, and the reward will follow.”
