Shelter for the homeless provided in Florida
The shelter will accommodate about 60 people
On the evening of Tuesday, 2 April, Ward 70 councillor, Caleb Finn held a community briefing meeting with regard to a new shelter for displaced persons.
The meeting was held at the Rainbow FM 90.7 hall. Officials from the Joburg Property Company were also invited to the meeting where the purpose of the shelter and who will be able to benefit from it were discussed. The community was also briefed about expanding the shelter to accommodate more people. Initially it will accommodate approximately 60 homeless people (of any age); however, it will only provide temporary accommodation.
According to Finn, the community will be able to benefit from this project in terms of employment opportunities. “In a week’s time we will advertise the position of a community liaison officer and the candidates will be interviewed to select the most suitable person for this position. We will also employ local SMMEs for projects we will run,” Finn said.
The shelter is located at 1 Dan Street, Florida (next to the taxi rank).
