In the event of an emergency where Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required, eight newly trained locals would be able to save the life of a friend, family member or stranger.

This is thanks to Quick Response Service (QRS), a local ambulance service, which offered the free basic training to a group of laypersons on 23 March.

Jackie van Deventer from QRS explained more about the initiative. “It was a free course that we offered for CPR and choking. The course covered infant, child and adult CPR. This was our way of giving back to the community and teaching them that they can make a difference,” she said.

The course is accredited by the Department of Labour, according to Jackie. She said that they also offer other courses such as the Basic Life Support for Health Care course, which can be acquired privately.
