Fun at West Rand Toastmasters’ speech contest

Winners will compete at the Area S2 contest

The West Rand Toastmasters Club’s speech contest took place on 7 March and all the competitors were raring to go.

Although contests usually differ from normal club meetings in the sense of the winners being determined by judges instead of diplomatic votes from audience members, everyone had an exciting and enjoyable evening.

The role of Contest Chair was filled by the club’s president, Esther Dreyer, and contestants gave it their all to ensure they qualified for participation in the upcoming Area S2 speech contest, where they will be competing against speakers from other clubs within the area.

The speakers who qualified for the next round were Glen Campbell (Best Prepared Speech) and Alwyn van Wyngaarden (Best Evaluator and Best Impromptu Speech).

Lynette Harris was awarded a second place in the Evaluation contest and a third place in the Impromptu Speech category.

The next meeting will be held on 4 April at the Discovery Bowling Club on Lucas Avenue, Discovery. It will start at 6.30pm. The meeting will be a contest for entrants for the S2 Area Contest, which will be taking place on 23 March.
