Maths doctor to attend BRICS conference

As Mathematics is the foundation for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, Dr Huntley believes that it is essential to network with global maths practitioners and academics to work towards a shared goal for improving mathematics education in South Africa and internationally.

Trinityhouse Little Fall’s mathematics genius, Dr Belinda Huntley, has been invited to attend the third BRICS Mathematics Conference at the Innopolis University in Russia. The conference will take place from 21 to 26 July.

Dr Huntley, the current maths and advanced programme maths teacher at Trinityhouse and regional coordinator for the Wits Siyanqoba Maths Olympiad Training Centre, indicated that she was looking forward to learning more at the conference as she is part of the organising committee for when the event will be held on South African soil in 2020.

As Mathematics is the foundation for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, Dr Huntley believes that it is essential to network with global maths practitioners and academics to work towards a shared goal for improving mathematics education, both in South Africa and internationally.

Promoting a culture of problem-solving and critical thinking in mathematics classrooms at both the junior and secondary school levels forms part of Dr Huntley’s responsibilities at Trinityhouse.
