Special operations yield results for Roodepoort Police

Various arrests made from 15 February to 18 February

During the period from 15 to 18 February, members of the Roodepoort Police joined forces with the national traffic police as well as the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department to perform several special operations.

During these operations, they arrested 226 suspects in the Johannesburg West Cluster, which included Roodepoort, Diepsloot, Honeydew, Douglasdale, Florida, Linden and Randburg.

The suspects were arrested on various charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, rape, unlawful use or possession of drugs, common assault (under the Domestic Violence Act 108 of 1996), assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (under the Domestic Violence Act 108 of 1996), housebreaking (residential), housebreaking (business), oossession of housebreaking implements, robbery with aggravating circumstances, common robbery, house robbery, business robbery, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, fraud, malicious injury to property, driving while under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, selling liquor without a license, dealing in liquor without a license, tampering with municipal/ essential infrastructure, contravening the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996, pedestrian as a source of danger on a national road (national traffic police), possession of dangerous weapons, illegal gambling, drinking in public, hijacked recovered vehicle, unlawful possession of precious metal, pointing of firearm, carjacking, possession of dagga in a public place, contravening of the Liquor Act 59 of 2003, possession of stolen motor vehicles and murder.

Captain Juanita Yorke, the Roodepoort Police spokesperson, said that a total of five J534 summonses were also issued during the operation held in Honeydew.

She confirmed that all suspects were expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
