Horrific double murder shocks community

It's alleged that the two girls were shot by Kamogelo's boyfriend.

A neighbour was left traumatised when she found two young women, aged 22 and 30, lying in a pool of blood after being shot in their home in the Princess informal settlement.

Kamogelo Mabe’s memorial service was held in Princess, where her loved ones shared that she was a beautiful and ambitious person, who had many plans and dreams about her future. Kamogelo leaves behind her mother and her siblings.

Later on that evening, the EFF region C held a memorial service for Phindile Tivane at Tulip Combined School in Roodepoort. Phindle was an EFF student command at the South West Gauteng College. She was born in North West and moved to Roodepoort to study. She leaves behind her eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son. Her cousin, Portia Mokwele said, “Our family is heart-broken by Phindile’s death. She left home to further her studies so that she would be able to provide a better life for her children, but someone felt that he had the right to take a mother away from her children”.

According to Kamogelo’s neighbour, Kobamelo, on the night of Thursday, 27 February, she was woken up by a heated argument followed by gunshots. “I was afraid to go out and check. I only went out the next morning at about 7.30am, to ask my neighbour if she had heard the gunshots as well. When I got there, I found the door open and as I entered, I saw two bodies, one on top of the bed and the other one on the floor. My neighbour, Kamogelo Mabe, and her friend, Phindile Tivane had been killed,” Kobamelo said.

According to a statement issued by the Gauteng West Cluster spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, it’s alleged that the two girls were shot by Kamogelo’s boyfriend. Muthan stated that the suspect was a Zimbabwean man known by the name of Vumani.

Muthan said, “Apparently, the reason he killed the girls was because Kamogelo had told him she was breaking up with him and wanted him out of her life as she had found a new boyfriend, a taxi driver. It is alleged that the suspect acted out of jealousy and fired his gun, killing both the women.”

Muthan also mentioned that cartridges were found on the scene. “Kamogelo sustained a bullet wound in the face under the eye, whilst Phindile sustained wounds to the head, the left shoulder and chest. The suspect was later arrested,” Muthan concluded.
