Colourful support received at annual Shavathon

The event was once again quite successful

The annual Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Shavathon received a lot of community support again this year.

The event took place on 2 March at the Princess Crossing Shopping Centre and saw a lot of coloured (and even some shaved) heads.

Lisa Chiddick and Kelsey Hunt manned the spray cans on the day.

This annual event aims to raise money for cancer patients by inviting anyone to either spray their hair or have it shaved off, for a small donation of R50.

The majority of the Princess Crossing patrons were more than willing to add some funky colours to their hair, but only a few were brave enough to sit in the chair and have their beautiful locks shaved off.

Belinda Schipper decided to spray her hair in a rainbow of different colours.

Melanie Walker, a Cansa volunteer, said “We were at the centre from 9am to 4pm, and although we had a slow start, it started picking up after lunch time. But, we always receive a lot of support form the community, and this year it was no different.”

Lisa Chiddick and Kelsey Hunt also volunteered some of their weekend leisure time to help man the spray cans and ensure all participants had a head full of rainbow colours.
