School children rushed to hospital after an accident

White Toyota Avanza allegedly skipped a traffic light and collided with an oncoming white Nissan Hardbody bakkie.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, 5 March, school children were involved in an accident on the corner of Dromedaris and Nassau Streets while they were being transported to their homes.

According to eyewitnesses, the school transport vehicle, a white Toyota Avanza, skipped a traffic light and collided with an oncoming white Nissan Hardbody bakkie.

Although the Avanza is a seven-seater it was allegedly overloaded with learners. ER24 and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department were on the scene, and the Witpoortjie Community Policing Forum members helped by directing traffic.

Fortunately, there where no fatalities and the injured learners were rushed to Leratong Hospital. This accident left the learners traumatised and in shock. Some of them are from Princess Primary School and others are from Princess High School.
