Isben Street in Georginia has for months been a rocky route which none of the motorists in the area wishes to use due to its shabby condition.
However, motorists have no choice but to use the road, especially for those joining Albertina Sisulu Road, although the route poses a great danger to their tyres.

According to a concerned resident, Chad Davies, who also happens to be the Neighbourhood Watch volunteer, the road was recently damaged by trucks that were constantly using the road during repairs at the railway station. “The road ended up collapsing because of the trucks travelling up and down,” he said.

He added that the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) was informed of the problem and, “they just threw sand and crush stone onto the road surface”.
Ward 84 councillor Gert Niemand confirmed the cause of damage. “This damage was caused by Transnet while doing emergency repair work to the railway line. JRA was informed and are busy with Transnet for the re-instatement,” he explained.

Davies appealed for a swift repair of the road as the crushed stone has started escaping the road surface – re-exposing the damages which are a major concern.
Niemand responded that JRA needed to comment as this is an operational matter and he is not in a position to say anything further.
Questions regarding the matter were sent to JRA. An update will be published once more information is made available.
