Grief as Roodepoort officer dies

“It’s a big loss for us, he will always be in our hearts – gone but not forgotten,” Yorke lamented.

The untimely death of Roodepoort Police officer, Sergeant David Dasheka, has left the station and community reeling in pain and shock.

Dasheka, fondly known as Dash by his colleagues, died in a car accident on Saturday, 2 March. He was off duty at the time of his demise.

The 46-year-old officer, who served in the Echo Relief team under the drug unit, kicked off his career in 2002 and through his dedication to his job, managed to complete all the courses and also obtained four awards, including the SAPS Soccer World Cup 2010 support medal, SAPS Ten Year Loyalty and Centenary medals.

A grief-stricken Captain Juanita Yorke, the Roodepoort Police spokesperson, extended an invitation to the residents of Roodepoort to come out this Thursday, 7 March, to the memorial service for Dash, which will be held at Jozua Naudé Primary School, 2 Paul Kruger Avenue, Horison at 10am.

“It’s a big loss for us, he will always be in our hearts – gone but not forgotten,” Yorke lamented.

She added that a memorial wall has been put up at the Police Station for residents to pay their respects to the fallen officer, by laying down flowers, messages and candles.
