JNW Chess holds tournament at Trinityhouse

The tournament saw some intense matches throughout the day.

The Johannesburg North West (JNW) Chess Club welcomed more than 100 chess players from all over to take part in a tournament at Trinityhouse Little Falls on Saturday, 23 February.

The tournament was held in the hope that it would attract new chess players to the JNW Chess Club, and close to 150 players racked their brains for the perfect move throughout the day. Matches started as early as 8/ 9am on Saturday, and continued right through to the early evening, with matches taking place across several divisions.

The divisions were determined not necessarily by age, but rather by skill level, and saw some younger children take on one or two adults and either giving them a real run for their money, or simply beating them. While the chess players battled it out inside the school hall, the friends and families of those taking part were able to enjoy the day outside with a number of food stalls set up for those who made the trip.

The next JNW Chess Club tournament is scheduled to take place at Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge on Saturday, 9 March.
