Allen Lewis-Williams enters seventh heaven this year

This year is the seventh incarnation of the tournament.

Bowlers from all over the West Rand came together once again to take part in this year’s seventh edition of the annual Allen Lewis-Williams Memorial Tournament.

Every year, the Allen Lewis-Williams Memorial Tournament is held in honour of the man of the same name, who passed away at the age of 60 in 2011. Allen was a dearly loved member of Honeydew Bowling Club (HBC), and his mark on the club is still felt at the tournament, eight years after his passing.

The tournament was initiated in 2013 by Allen’s brother, Joss, in memory of his late brother. Now, HBC invites members from bowling clubs all over to take part in the annual tournament, which this year got under way at 4.30pm on Friday, 23 February. It takes place over the course of three Fridays, with the second and third days being 1 March and 8 March.

Since its inception, the tournament has gone from strength to strength, with just over 50 players taking part each year. The majority of the funds that are raised at the tournament are donated to the Blind Bowlers and Guide Dogs Associations.

This year there was a rather special feeling in the air on the first Friday, as it is the seventh edition of the tournament.
