Allen Glen defeats Bekker in their own backyard
Allen Glen managed to win four of the five fixtures against Bekker.
Allen Glen High School’s rugby teams continued to showcase ever-increasing rugby prowess when they took on Hoërskool Bekker in their own backyard and went home with four victories from five games.
Allen Glen made the 50km trip to Magaliesburg with all five of its age group rugby sides hoping to show that the growth that its rugby has seen in the last few years has been sustainable. They kicked the day off with an U/14 clash, the first time their juniors were playing together on a rugby field.
While things didn’t quite go to plan for Allen Glen as they lost 22–19, there were undoubtedly plenty positives for the coaches to take away from the game. After that initial loss, Allen Glen went on to dominate the rest of the match day as none of their four other teams lost. The U/15s, last year’s U/14s, were impressive and managed to earn themselves a 32–21 victory while the U/16s followed that up with a 17–7 victory.
The second team, bolstered by a number of last year’s promising U/16 players, earned themselves a 32–21 victory, while the first team managed to earn the largest victory margin of the day, winning 45–17.
