Allen Glen sweeps Hoërskool Florida off the chessboard
Sixteen players took part in the day, each of them laying their opponent twice.
Allen Glen High School’s chess braniacs recently locked horns with Hoërskool Florida in a bid to showcase their chess superiority.
The two schools take part in the Roodepoort Chess League, and are usually two strong chess schools. The fixture was divided into two rounds of eight matches each, with 16 players in total taking part in 16 matches.
Allen Glen managed to win the first round 5–3, but knew they’d have a tougher task in the second round as Florida hoped to make a comeback. They did exactly that, but were unable to get enough victories to win, leaving the two schools tied 4– 4 at the end of the final round.
This effort was enough for Allen Glen to take home the win, however, as they won the day 9–7.
