Nobody seems to care

Archibald from Roodepoort writes:

Today, I write this letter in intense frustration and utter disdain towards City Power and its management.

I arrived home just after 12pm today and there was no electricity. I checked the schedule for load-shedding and it showed null – no red lights were flashing. I decided to wait out the four hours which we have by now become accustomed to.

I then decided to log a call on the City Power website as the phonecall I had made resulted in 40 minutes of holding on, listening to a recorded message. I decided to end the call and went onto the City Power webpage to log a fault.

I had to register myself as this was my first time as a user of the site. After completing the form, I tried to save it. No matter what I did (and I’m extremely computer savvy) nothing worked.

I decided to enquire with the other families in our complex, but nobody could explain why we had no power.

There was no correspondence on the City Power website, even after sitting without electricity from 12pm until 7.10pm – so, for seven hours and 10 min there was no communication, no assistance from webpages, no answering of telephones, just a repeated recording.

I find this totally unacceptable. Communication is key to any organisation that is worth its salt. [I want to know why], as a tax paying citizen, born in South Africa, we don’t get treated with dignity and the respect we deserve. A two-liner on the City Power website is better than no communication at all!

I repeatedly ask myself ‘How did we get into this situation so fast?’

Nobody seems to care.
