Grade 8, 9, and 11 speakers perform at Charter College

Not one team was graded below B+ for their efforts.

Charter College’s public speakers in Grades 8, 9, and 11 recently went above and beyond, and excelled at several competitions.

Charter College’s Grade 8 speakers made the trip to Reddam House Waterfall for the 2019 Speech and Drama Association (SDA) Festival, which was hosted by Reddam House. Charter sent two teams to the festival, with Team 1 speaking on the topic Homework on Jupiter and receiving a B+ symbol in the process. Team 2 also excelled, and managed to earn an A symbol for their efforts on the topic of Spud.

Charter’s Grade 9 speakers didn’t head off to Reddam House, but instead travelled to Leeuwenhof Akademie for their SDA Festival. They only sent one team to this festival. They chose The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan to inspire their speech topics. The speakers – Yaseen Motara, Jeffery Kolisko, Harry Tlapi and Mahilan Naicker – spoke with great enthusiasm and earned themselves a B+ symbol.

The Grade 11 speakers from Charter College didn’t have to go far at all, as the school hosted this section of the SDA Festival. They once again had two teams taking part, and Team 1 –Khiara Hira, Tracey Gwizo, Laura Nyathi, and Kayla McLean – who have been speaking together since Grade 8, earned yet another A symbol for their talk on Fat Shaming – Inspired by a meme. Team 2 – Angelica Goncalves, Storm Swanepoel, Loyiso Motsamai, and Shannon Barkley – were tasked with speaking about How to Save the World – Inspired by a meme, and managed to earn themselves a B+ symbol.
