Rusty Hook and Jay Club join hands for Gin Festival

All sorts of gin were available for those who attended the festival.

Gin-lovers from all over made the trip to Rusty Hook for a festival featuring music from popular Afrikaans musicians such as Bobby van Jaarsveld and Jay du Plessis on Saturday, 16 February.

The Jay Club was founded 14 years ago by South African pop music singer and former Eden member, Jay du Plessis, when he saw the need for a way to reduce the costs of insurance at a time when the country’s economy was going through a bit of a downer. “Members of the Jay Club are granted certain perks, be it with insurance, tickets to shows, or even holidays for their family,” Jay said during an interview at the Jay Club’s golf day in March last year.

One of the shows where they were able to redeem one or two of their perks was the Gin Festival which welcomed former The Voice contestant, Nolene Olivier, who take to the stage and provided the audience with some entertainment. For 28 year-old Nolene, who was part of Bobby’s team in The Voice 2016, it was special to be able to sing alongside Afrikaans music legends such as Bobby and Jay. “It’s a huge privilege and honour to be able to sing with the guys I looked up to while still in school,” she said.

Nolene got the evening under way before Bobby performed his set, with Jay closing the evening off, while those in attendance had the chance to enjoy some craft gin throughout the night.
