Florida community to ‘take back the streets’
Initiative grew naturally out of community unhappiness
Fed up Florida residents are saying ‘enough is enough’, and to put their money where their mouths are, they will be holding a march during which they will convey this message in the strongest legal fashion.
The march will take place on 23 February. Those who want to join can gather at the M.O.T.H. Hall on the corner of 4th Avenue and Green Street from about 9am, but the march will commence promptly at 10am.
According to the poster promoting the march, which is an initiative that has grown from within the community, the call to action is as follows: “Join us! Let our voices be heard. We march against drug dealers; we march against nightclubs disrespecting our community’s right to silence and peace late at night. We march for more policing in our area. We march against corruption. We march against vagrants who strip our area of all metal … We will no longer sit down in silence. We will issue warnings to all! Our community has spoken”.
The march is supported by ICE Community Policing, the CPF, various neighbourhood watches, businesses and the Florida Women’s Forum.
