Unplanned power outages are currently being experienced in and around some areas of Roodepoort, including Weltevreden Park and Radiokop, City Power reported.
The power interruption in Weltevreden Park, which is estimated to have lasted for 40 hours, according to Ward 126 councillor, David Brand, was caused by damage to a cable by Rand Water contractor, Maziya General Services, which is excavating in the area.

The incident left areas in the Devon Valley section of Weltevreden Park and surrounds without electricity since Wednesday night, 13 February.
Isaac Mangena, the City Power spokesperson said, “City Power technicians have been in the area since last night [Wednesday, 13 February] to work on the problem”.
He also explained what led to the delay in power restoration. “The delay on the work was caused by the fact that the cable fault was located in an unsafe area underground, which took longer to reach.”
He went on to say, “We have since located the cable and are currently busy with repairs. We expect to restore supply to the affected areas by Friday morning.”
Councillor Brand indicated that the power had not been restored this morning, but City Power was busy on site.

Mangena said Wilgeheuwel also experienced a trip due to the current surge when power was restored after load-shedding. “This affected areas around Wilgeheuwel and Radiokop,” he said.
City Power apologised to residents affected by these outages.
