As part of the citywide #BuyaMthetho campaign, Mayor Herman Mashaba was accompanied by city officials to various supposedly non-compliant sites around Roodepoort and the City of Johannesburg’s Region C at large on Tuesday, 12 February.
The mayor’s day in Roodepoort kicked off in Bergbron Extension 14, where a development has gone up where, according to a City of Joburg tweet, “The contractor has not consulted the City with the building plan for approval, and application for electricity has not been done”.

The second Roodepoort location which they visited, and third on the day after visiting Ormonde first, was a surprise to many a Roodepoort resident, as they visited Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel where they allege that the “School has not submitted the building plans and they are illegally connected to City Services”.

The third location in Roodepoort was a newly-built retirement village in Honeydew called Regent Park, which might also surprise residents, as it was also alleged that “the contractor has not submitted building plans and the village is illegally connected to City Services”.
