It’s just a jump to the left …

And then a step to the right ...

Fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show were treated to a spectacular interactive screening of the cult-classic by Alter Egos Events at Rusty Hook on Saturday, 9 February.

Alter Egos is known far and wide for its wacky, off-the-rails events that allow everyone with deep, dark desires to live out some of their weirdest fantasies, and the interactive screening of TRHPS allowed fans to do just that. It was the second event of its kind organised by Alter Egos, with the majority of its interactive cast reprising their roles from last year’s inaugural event.

Fans started pouring into Rusty Hook in the late afternoon, beginning to transform the venue into an out-of-this-world real-life re-imagining of TRHPS. As they arrived, the audience members were handed a welcome pack that contained all sorts of props they would use throughout the screening of the show. Among the props were rice for the opening wedding scene, water guns for the rainy scene when Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) arrive at the castle, as well as slices of toast for the toast that Dr Frank N Furter (Tim Curry) makes during dinner.

The audience was also treated to call-cards that popped out from the side of the screen with phrases that they had to shout out at random intervals throughout the movie. There was also an interactive cast from Alter Egos that acted out bits of the movie as best they could. Matt Jessen brilliantly reprised his role as Dr Frank N Furter, spectacularly bringing the eccentricity needed for the portrayal of self-proclaimed “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania” to life.

Jean Bollweg was handed the chance to play Riff Raff – Dr Frank N Furter’s trusty right-hand man – and brought brand-new levels of creepy to the role that only he could do. Eddie – portrayed by Meat Loaf in the film – was brought to life by Greg Kiley, who shares a slight resemblance to Meat Loaf.

The screening was a huge, fun, eccentric success as audience members got to do the Time Warp once again, as well as enjoy the brilliant way in which the interactive cast brought scenes from the movie to life.
