Durban Deep finally receives water

After a few days of extremely high temperatures without water, Johannesburg Water finally heard the community's cries.

The community of Durban Deep spent days in extremely high temperatures without water being delivered to them.

For about five years, the community has had neither electricity nor running water. Community members stated that the whole township does not have one single tap.

JW has a contract to deliver water to the community; however, for unknown reasons no water was delivered for about three days.

Learners had to stay home for hygienic reasons and fell behind on their school work. Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) could only help the community with the little water they had left.

Members of the community took the issue to social media, pleading for help from JW. The entity finally yielded to the pressure and sent a truck to refill the Jojo tanks in the area.

Ward 70 councillor, Caleb Finn confirmed that water has been delivered to the community. “We are very grateful that they finally received water. The living conditions in this area are very sad. The community members feel as if they live in a forgotten village due to the lack of services from the government,” Cora Bailey from Claw said. She added that the community has a huge need for a donation of size three to five shoes for the orphans as well as non-perishable foods for the children who have nothing at home.
