Details are still sketchy but two, and possibly three suspects have been arrested on Trezona Avenue a short while ago after they attempted to rob/ hijack a cigarette van on Robert Broom Drive earlier today.
The armed assailants attempted to rob the van somewhere between 10am and 10.30am. The police were alerted and gave chase. Due to the fact that there were only two officers in the official vehicle, a male and a female, they had to wait for backup. Their excellent work, with the assistance of other police vehicles which basically surrounded the suspects’ minibus, led to the suspects being pushed off the road at the corner of Fiskaal Street and Trezona Avenue. The arrests were made a few hundred metres from Hoërskool Bastion. In addition to the two occupants of the mini bus, a third suspect was arrested in a veld nearby. The police are still in the process of determining whether the third suspect was indeed part of the gang.

According to an unofficial source two semi-automatic firearms and a crate of ammunition were also confiscated.
