Well that escalated quickly…

Blake Linder writes:

Ahh, 2018, my first year in the city has come and gone faster than the taxis that overtake you in the emergency lane and quite frankly my dear, it has been one heck of year.

When I first arrived in Johannesburg from Tzaneen in December 2017 I had absolutely no idea what lay ahead for me in 2018, and I was quite honestly petrified of the prospect of making a living in the big bad city. But, lo and behold, the Northsider community welcomed me into the fold with open arms and I couldn’t be any more grateful for you, the readers.

Like the rest of us, I have been through many of my own personal challenges, but through it all I had the solace of knowing that when I head into the office and pour my heart into my writing, there will be a community on the other end that appreciates the hard work we put in. The Northsider has always been incredibly engaging when it comes to social media, and without your input, two of my favourite stories which I’ve work on – the Gautrain and the new Welties school – would never have happened.

After this year, which has come and gone faster than I would have believed possible, I truly feel like a real member of the community, and I owe that mainly to you, our readers.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas, which I hope you will be spending with family, and a Happy New Year. And remember, the JMPD is a real police force, and will be on the hunt for people driving drunk, so please be safe and don’t drink and drive!
