Tiano’s spectacular form continues

The SA National Track Championships consist of individual pursuit races, time-trials and sprint races

One of ProTouch Cycling’s most prolific junior riders, Tiano da Silva, carried his spectacular road form onto the track by winning gold at the SA National Track Championships.

The SA National Track Championships consist of individual pursuit races, time-trials and sprint races. Tiano experienced a monumental 2018 season in the Support SA Talent Road Cycling Series, which saw him firmly stamp his mark on the South African junior road cycling scene.

He managed to win the Junior Men’s section of the Overall Series category in the Road Cycling series, and also finished off in second place in the Best Junior Tour Rider category, behind teammate Rickardo Broxham. Heading into the track nationals, which were held at the Belville Velodrome in Cape Town on 11 December, Tiano was hoping to carry his spectacular form from the road onto the track.

He managed to do just that, claiming gold and being crowned the new SA Junior Track Champion in the points race in the junior men’s category of the competition. Tiano wasn’t alone however, as his teammate Dian Janjetich also excelled, albeit in the U/17 boys’ category. Dian managed to claim bronze medals in both the 1 500m race and the scratch race in the same category.
