Update on the water shortage

They are limited to pumping 1 000 megalitres during the day instead of the required 1 200 megalitres.

Rand Water (RW) is urging residents to use water sparingly as their reservoir levels are very low due to a faulty City Power transformer.

According to RW media relations manager, Justice Mohale, the problem started on 4 December and City Power estimate that it will take five to seven days to resolve it.

City Power has connected the Eikenhof supply to a Kibler Park transformer, and as a result they are limited to pumping 1 000 megalitres during the day instead of the required 1 200 megalitres.

The Roodepoort reservoir is currently at 82 per cent. “We are able to pump an extra 100 megalitres only from 10pm and have to switch off the pumps in the morning,” he said.

City Power will attempt to increase the load on the affected transformers to increase pumping capacity.
