Volunteers’ hard work recognised during awards ceremony

They had to meet certain criteria

The hard work and dedication of community members who serve on a voluntary basis in the Emergency Services was recognised during a recent special event.

The aim of the event was to give recognition to three specific areas, which included the police reservists, the Community Policing Forum (CPF) as well as the Emergency Management Services (EMS).

The volunteers in these categories are not remunerated for their services and also perform their duties on their own time, while putting their lives on the line.

These individuals often participate in a variety of community projects as well.

The event was organised by the Johannesburg West Cluster management, as well as the management of various other role players, including station Vispol commanders, coordinators, CPF Management as well as representatives from the City of Johannesburg’s EMS services.

Before a member could be nominated for an award, there were certain criteria they had to comply with, among them the total amount of hours worked, the number of successes achieved, and whether they had excelled among their colleagues.

The elected members stood out from their peers as they surpassed all requirements. They did so willingly and without the need for being in the limelight or self-enrichment.

It was for this reason that the various members were selected to receive awards, for being the best of the best within the Johannesburg Cluster Voluntary services.

The following people were elected by their relevant stations and their community:

• Most Improved Police Reservist (Florida) – Reservist Constable Gavin Tracey

• Best Contribution to the Police Reservists (Florida) – Female Constable Wendy Adams

• Top Cop (Reservist) for Florida Police – Reservist Warrant Officer Errol Botha

• Top CPF Person (Florida) – Riaz Jogee

• Most Improved Police Reservist (Roodepoort) – Reservist Constable Newton Hoff

• Top Cop (Reservist) for Roodepoort Police – Reservist Constable Richard Sequeria

The event was concluded with the reservists being congratulated and thanked for the contributions they have made during the year.
