Roodepoort gets pre-season training and preparations under way
After a brief respite after the conclusion of the season, Poorte's rugby players are back at it again.
The hard work never seems to end for Roodepoort Rugby Club, as they have already begun their training and preparations for what promises to be a big 2019 season.
After a monumental year in 2018, the pressure will arguably be back on the club to try and emulate this year’s success in their next season, which starts when they return to the SARU Gold Cup for the first time in four years. Poorte managed to achieve this by finishing as the top open club in the Golden Lions Rugby Union’s Pirates Grand Challenge (PGC) this year, bouncing back from a torrid 2017 season.

The 2017 season ended with Poorte having to play in the promotion/ relegation playoffs for the PGC, which they fortunately won to maintain their spot in the PGC. They faced a mountain in the form of the 2018 PGC, but managed to come just one step short of the summit, narrowly losing out to Pukke in the final.
Regardless, Roodepoort was the top open club, and they are now back to training for the 2019 season after a rather short break at the end of the season. While not all of the 15-man rugby players took part in the club’s 7s rugby, they continued to train well into September/ October.
They had very little respite, however, and in late October they began again with the conditioning of the players at SportPro South Africa. They are now back to practising at Ruimsig Stadium however, as they look to take over the 2019 Gold Cup the same way they did the 2018 PGC.
