The Mayor must know about the councillor’s laziness

James Bowen from Florida Lake writes:

Once more the Ward 84 councillor is either getting out of the promises that he made to the ward or just has completely forgotten about them. He is sorting out the problems everywhere else but ignoring the ongoing problem at the Hamerkop bird sanctuary in Florida Lake. I have lived in this area for almost 10 years, and am very unhappy and disgusted with the way that nobody is doing their work properly. The councillor has been told many times about the problems that exist there, namely:

1) The river/ spruit that is supposed to be flowing freely through the sanctuary is not doing so because of all the rubbish that is lying both inside and outside the entrance to the sanctuary.

2) The trees that were knocked down during the bad hailstorm at the end of January last year have not been removed as yet.

3) Even though part of the river to the sanctuary was cleaned up a little, not all of it was done and therefore the river cannot flow freely.

In other words, it appears that the councillor is not at all interested in the welfare of the birds, or the health hazard that the sanctuary presents to the community, and just turns a blind eye on the issue.

There was a half-hearted clean-up on Eeufees Avenue and Riethaan Street recently, but the only thing that was done was to mow the grass outside the sanctuary. The sanctuary was hidden from sight before the grass cutting, and not all of the grass was picked up – it’s still lying on the sidewalk.

Was everybody was hoping for a miracle to happen overnight and that the grass would vanish from sight?

I sincerely hope that the Mayor gets to know about the councillor’s laziness, and replaces him with someone who is not afraid to do the work that is required of him. There is no place in the system for laziness if we are to be pleased and happy with the surroundings in which we live.
