It seems that criminals in the Lindhaven area are once again gunning for soft targets – school children.
Last week, residents reported that school children are being targeted by criminals on South Road. The intersection with Rothschild Street seems to be a particularly favoured spot for these thugs, who mug the children, usually taking their cellphones, tablets and other valuables. The children are soft targets on this road as more than one school’s learners use it to walk to and from home.
An eyewitness said that while waiting for a bus last week, she saw five men robbing children at the intersection. It has also been reported that the men are armed with knives.
The public is now calling on crime-fighting groups such as neighbourhood watches to do more patrols in this area, especially in the mornings before and in the afternoons after school.
Parents are asked to ensure their children are vigilant in this area or if possible, to find alternative routes for them. It is also advised that the children walk in groups in order to be less vulnerable.
