Sector 3 Honeydew CPF held last meeting of 2018

As we gear up for the festive season, roads will be flooded with law enforcement vehicles, with some operating unmarked as police aim to maintain a high visibility throughout the festive period.

“Crime has nothing to do with race. Suspects are not just black males. We are also looking for coloured and white males who have committed crimes”.

This was the message from Honeydew Police Sector 3 manager, Captain Karen Jacob, who cautioned residents at the last meeting of the Sector 3 Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) on Wednesday, 14 November, urging them to be vigilant about anything that doesn’t look right.

Jacobs indicated that, as we gear up for the festive season, roads will be flooded with law enforcement vehicles, with some operating unmarked as police aim to maintain high visibility throughout the festive period. “You will see a lot of vehicles that are unmarked as we are trying to keep a low profile,” she said.

She also indicated that, having launched the festive season campaign, crime operations will continue. The campaign resulted in the shutdown of illegal shebeens and the confiscation of suspected stolen items on a plot in Honeydew recently.

She also cautioned motorists to be wary at busy intersections for smash and grabs and where there are no street lights when driving in the evening.

Johannesburg Metro Police’s superintendent, Wandile Mrubata, weighed in to say stop-and-search operations will be conducted at problematic intersections such as that of Krugerrand Road with Hendrik Potgieter Road.

The chairperson of the forum, Carolyn Lanzillotti, concluded the meeting by urging motorists to safeguard their cars as the Sector’s statistics had revealed an increase in the theft of motor vehicles, especially Toyota bakkies and VW Polo sedans and hatchbacks.

Security companies and individuals that have contributed immensely to the forum were thanked at the end of the meeting.

The forum will meet again in the New Year. The date will be communicated on social media platforms.
