Post box issue boils down to dispute between Sapo and landlord
Users of the 14th Avenue District Shopping Centre's post boxes have not received mail for up to six months.
Residents who make use of the 14th Avenue District Shopping Centre’s post boxes have not received mail for up to six months due to a ‘dispute’ between Sapo and the centre’s landlord.
The South African Post Office (Sapo) has had a rocky year in 2018, with various worker strikes negatively affecting their ability to carry out their intended service of delivering post to residents. At a local level, they simply aren’t delivering either, with numerous residents who use 14th Avenue Centre as their means of obtaining post not receiving post for several months.
According to Johann Terblanche, who has on numerous occasions tried to find a solution to the problem, the lack of post could negatively affect his business. “I’m a lawyer and receiving post is essential to my profession, so not receiving my post means I could lose potential clients,” Johann said.
Another resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, was fetching his post at the time of our visit to the boxes and stated that he had not received any post for about six months. While the nature thereof is unknown, according to a Krugersdorp Post Office official there is a dispute going on between Sapo and the centre’s landlord.
Despite numerous attempts to make contact with the Sapo for official comment on the matter, at the time of writing no statement had been received.
