Foreign shop-owners in Zandspruit closed their shops and took bakkies to Honeydew Police Station after becoming tired of their own being killed during business robberies.
The urgent action by these men follows the death of one of the owners today, Thursday, 15 November, during an armed robbery committed before midday.

It is alleged by the deceased’s business partners that he died after being strangled by one of the five wanted robbers who targeted them at the store.

An undisclosed amount of money and airtime was taken during the ordeal. A colleague of the deceased narrowly missed being shot when he tried to pursue the criminals and they responded by firing shots at him.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly before noon, they found the man lying on the floor inside the centre. Unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for the man and he was declared dead at the scene, said ER24 spokesperson, Ineke van Huyssteen.

Police also arrived at the scene to investigate the matter and eventually, a mortuary van from Roodepoort arrived to take the body to the State mortuary.
Foreign shop-owners, who were distressed by the tragic incident, told Northsider that they are frequently targeted by a group of five men and have had enough. This incident resulted in them seeking assistance from the Zandspruit leadership to organise a meeting with the Honeydew Police Station commander Brigadier Anesh Maharaj to seek protection and the arrest of the culprits.
The meeting is currently under way at the police station.
