Ludick’s dancers had a sterling year

'We are very proud of all of our dancers'

Dancers from the Ludick’s Acro Dance Studio (Lads) had a sterling year, with a lot of accomplishments to be proud of.

They kicked their year off by participating in the National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA) Young Performers Awards, and progressed to the finals, where they were crowned as the category winners in the small group section.

Then they moved on to the national round of Talent Africa, and all the participating dancers qualified to represent South Africa at Talent America. The group was one of 25 performances selected out of 2 700 entries, to dance in the Talent Africa Showcase, which was quite an achievement.

Next up was the Raca Eisteddfod. Lads entered seven dancers and obtained three Diamond (95 per cent+), two Platinum (90 to 94 per cent) and two Gold (85 to 89 per cent) awards, as well as the Spirit of Raca Award. All the participating dancers qualified for Gauteng Colours and will compete in next year’s Talent Africa Nationals. Both the junior and senior groups were category winners at the Raca Eisteddfod. To top it all off, the five-year-old Bea van Niekerk danced her first solo, and received a Platinum award, as well as her Gauteng Colours.

The dancers also participated in their first ever Dance Star competition, which was held in Pretoria. A junior and senior group was entered, and both groups qualified for the South African Team to compete in Croatia next year.

The last competitions were two acro competitions, that took place in Middelburg and Krugersdorp, where they managed to achieve the following results:

· Gold for 13 solos, eight duets, six trios, eight quartets and nine groups. (a total of 44 first places)

· Senior Championships Winner – Juané Grobler

· Most Promising Novice – Amé Loubsher

· Best Stage Personality – Rapelang Diseko

· Best Choreographed Group – At both competitions for the second year in a row.

· Best Choreographed Character – Juané Grobler

· Amé Loubsher, Mignon Theunissen and Ciara Venter won their Solos and will advance to the next level in 2019.

· Carla de Beer was runner up in her All-Round and will compete in Champs in 2019.
