Witpoortjie boxer gearing up for big fight

Wynand will be fighting for the Junior Middleweight title

Wynand Mulder is hoping to end his year on a high note when he gets into the ring with Boyd Allen Junior on 8 December.

They will be fighting for the Junior Middleweight title, and the 31-year-old Wynand will be looking to achieving better results than in his last fight. “My previous fight was in August, against the former Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) fighter, Wade Groth, for the Interim South African Middleweight title. Unfortunately, the fight did not go as planned, and Wade was declared the winner after the fight was stopped in the sixth round,” Wynand explained.

He added that, despite this result, he has had a good year, and is currently ranked second by Boxing South Africa (BSA) in the middleweight division.

Wynand said that Boyd was a former Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter who has moved on to boxing, “Boyd has had a good MMA career and I am expecting a hard fight. I am sure that it will also be one that the fans will love.”

When asked how his training was going, Wynand was very positive and upbeat, and said, “My training is going great so far, and I have brilliant team looking after me and supporting me. My coach, Gert Strydom, is one of South Africa’s best trainers, and I cannot ask for a better person in my corner when the bell goes.”

He thanked his sponsors (Spar Witpoortjie, VJ’s Auto Clinic, Creative Design Solutions, C and S Security and Corporate Cleaning), his fans and his wife, who all always support him through good and bad times and help him to keep on following his dreams. “I need to thank my wife the most, because it’s not easy living with an emotional fighter while he’s training for fights. From bad days in the gym to sore bodies to kicking me out the bed in the mornings to go run, she is the rock we all lean on.”

He added that Witpoortjie Spar has recently became one of his sponsors, for which he is very grateful. Norma Deysel, from Spar, said, “We pride ourselves on showing support to our community, and through this sponsorship of one of our own, we want to show our gratitude for the continued support received from the community members.”

Wynand concluded by saying, “I love all my fans, and when you see me running or in the shops, don’t hesitate to say hi – I always have time for fans of boxing.”
