Getting to know Constantia’s Mrs SA finalist
Her visit to the SPCA was the culmination of a year's hard work by Melissa in the Mrs SA competition.
Much to the delight of those at the organisation, Mrs South Africa Top 25 finalist, Melissa Charnley, dropped off a load of pet food at the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA on Monday, 5 November.
Melissa, a Constantia Kloof resident who grew up in Eldorado Park in the care of a single mom, has spent some time on the modelling scene before. From age three to age 19, Melissa spent her time on the catwalk, but once she realised how cut-throat and demanding the industry can be, she opted for a change of lifestyle.
She traded her crowns and sashes in for a career in the fleet management sector instead, but still values the lessons she learnt. “These challenges have shaped me into the wiser and more mature person I am today,” Melissa said.
When it comes to the Mrs SA competition, Melissa entered with one goal in mind: bettering the world we live in. “I entered Mrs SA because it will give me a further opportunity to contribute to a better world and showcase the diversity and enormous passion, compassion and stature of the global African woman of today,” she said.
Melissa, a Jeppe High School for Girls alumnus, wishes to emphasise the fact that there is more to a contestant than the physical beauty that lies on the surface. “She [a contestant] brings with her all of her life experiences that have shaped her into the woman that others look up to,” Melissa said.
Melissa also takes a firm stance on the belief that “nothing is too difficult for the brave”, and continued her work as a Mrs South Africa finalist by paying a visit to the SPCA on Monday, 5 November. Melissa managed to collect an astonishing 50 bags of cat and dog food to go along with 30 kennels for the animals at the SPCA.
Melissa was accompanied by Mpact and Ronnie Recycler, as she donated a number of kilograms of paper and cardboard to the SPCA’s recycling bins, which could create an income for the shelter if enough recyclable paper material is collected in the bins.
