Help Fred and Martie to make Christmas a bit brighter

"We need to light up Christmas for our children and elderly folk this year, and it is our heart's desire to host a Christmas party for them."

“But, unfortunately, our funds and supplies are low. We need your love for our cause to spark the light in you, illuminate our world and give our children and elderly folk hope this Christmas,” said Yolindie Oberholzer from Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen.

She added that they would like to host the parties on 17 November (for the senior citizens) and 8 December (for the children) and said, “While you are looking forward to a joyful festive season, celebrating the goodwill under the lights of your Christmas tree, receiving gifts, visiting loved ones and enjoying a Christmas meal, these families at Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen might not have anything to look forward to. That is why we are asking you to please open your hearts, as one act of kindness can light up their Christmas and give them hope in the darkness. Please help us to make their parties a huge success, by either donating items on our wish list or making a cash donation.”

There are 444 children in their care, in the following age categories:

• 0 to three years – 25 girls and 23 boys

• Four to six years – 49 girls and 41 boys

• Seven to 12 years – 100 girls and 80 boys

• 13 to 18 years – 64 girls and 62 boys

They are in need of a variety of items for both the parties, and Yolindie said, “We need a lot of items, and have made up a wish list, which is available on our website. It can also be emailed upon request. We are a registered public benefit and non-profit organisation and issue IT 18A certificates as well.”
