St Michael’s gets a helping hand from Mrs SA finalist
Nomi also handed out Mpact's recycling bags to each member of the church as they left on their way home.
Mrs South Africa Top 25 finalist, Nombina Habangana, paid St Michael and All Angels’ Anglican Church’s recycling project a visit on Sunday, 28 October.
Nomi’s visit formed part of the community work she’s required to do as a Mrs South Africa Top 25 finalist. She lent the church’s paper recycling project a hand in association with Mpact Recycling. Nomi also attends the church on a weekly basis, so it was only natural for her to pick it as the beneficiary of her charity work.

Mpact Recycling, the leading paper and PET recycler in South Africa, partnered with the Mrs South Africa pageant for the fourth consecutive year this year. Through the partnership with Mpact Recycling, the Top 25 Mrs South Africa Finalists are required to work alongside the company at schools and in communities with the aim of promoting recycling awareness, supporting fund-raising initiatives and increasing recycling volumes.
Each finalist has a target to generate 2 tonnes of recycling at the schools and communities that they visit. The Ronnie Recycler programme allows schools and communities to raise funds, as they are paid for their recyclables, whilst teaching environmental awareness, responsibility and sustainability.

“It was so encouraging to see the old and the young so keen to get involved in recycling. Not only will collaborating with Mpact Recycling reduce the burden on the environment but the church also gets to benefit financially – a real ‘win-win’!” Nomi said of her recycling visit. “I am so thankful and proud of my St Michael and All Angels family for not only bringing so much paper and cardboard today but also for pledging to continue doing so.”
Nomi enlisted the help of the Sunday School children at the church to help carry the paper and cardboard that needed to be recycled to the paper recycling bank, which was empty before they started but was filled to the brim by the time everyone went home.
