Thirty-nine suspects arrested during special operations

Arrests were made during stop-and-search operations

During the period of 22 to 25 October, the Roodepoort Police performed stop-and-search duties and special operations, and clamped down on illegal miners, resulting in 39 arrests.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 55, were arrested on various charges, including contempt of court, dealing in dagga, possession of drugs, possession of dagga, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, possession of housebreaking implements, shoplifting, business robbery, theft, violation of protection order, possession of stolen property, pointing of firearm and assault, assaulting a police officer and intimidation, theft under false pretence and common robbery.

All suspects were charged and detained at the Roodepoort Police Station. They will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
