Tarrying firetruck leads to destruction of two storage facilities and vintage car
Only five of the vintage models left in the country, said owner.
At about 2am on 25 October, West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) was alerted by one of its members that a fire had broken out on his smallholding on Mosega Street in Witpoortjie.
WSRNW tried to contact the fire brigade on at least nine different numbers, ranging from the fire station’s number to 10111 to the Metro Police before trying to put the fire out themselves. They were soon joined by members of a volunteer group called Emergency Control South Africa (ECSA).

The men used garden hoses and buckets filled with swimming pool water to bring the fire under control. When the fire truck from Roosevelt Park Fire Station eventually arrived at about 4am, the destruction had been done. Two barn-style storage facilities burned down, including a rare vintage model Morris Minor.

The damage could have been far more extensive since the two facilities are adjacent to a house of which the occupants were home.
WSRNW wishes to thank Theunis de Lange, Chris Montgomery and Herold Pailmen from ECSA, for their crucial assistance.
