Panorama draws first home SAB League game

The Undertakers will be taking on rivals Randburg Football Club at home on Saturday, 27 October in a bid to claim their first SAB League victory.

It was a frustrating day out for Panorama Football Club’s Undertakers when they played against Inqaba Football Club, as they were held to a 1–1 draw in their first home game in the SAB League.

A short spell of heavy rain little more than an hour before kick-off threatened to postpone the game if it were to waterlog the pitch or bring lightning along with it. But, thanks to Panorama’s drainage system on the top field, the water didn’t gather in puddles on the surface and the game was allowed to go ahead as planned.

Despite the majority of the water draining from the surface, a fair amount of moisture was left on the surface, making the pitch rather slippery underfoot. Thankfully however, this didn’t restrict the players from sticking to an entertaining style of football, as both sides were able to set up a number of attacking moves.

Although Panorama dictated the majority of the game, Inqaba were first to break the deadlock with a stroke of luck after a cross was deflected into the back of the net by a Panorama defender. The Undertakers didn’t rest on their laurels however, and within five minutes they levelled out proceedings after a goal from a free kick, which was awarded after the Inqaba goalkeeper handled the ball outside the box.

Panorama were also slightly lucky though, as the free-kick move led to a miscued shot which happened to fall to the head of a Panorama player.

The game went into half-time at 1–1, with Panorama hoping to pull through for the home fans. The second half would be one of frustration for Panorama however, as they dominated possession and territory for the remainder of the game. The closest they came to snatching the game was through a late long-range shot from captain Ethan Sandouse which struck the crossbar.

The draw earned Panorama their first SAB League point after they succumbed to Stars of Africa Football Academy the week before, the only side Panorama’s SAB team has lost to thus far.
