Hendrik Potgieter Road notorious for taxi collisions

According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, a total of 15 people were injured during the collision.

 

One of yesterday afternoon’s accidents left many taxi passengers injured after the taxi collided with a truck on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Nic Diederichs Roads in Little Falls.

It is alleged that the taxi was travelling on Hendrik Potgieter Road towards Clearwater when it skipped a red traffic light at speed and hit a truck.

Meiring said that several passengers from the taxi had been ejected from the vehicle and were found scattered around the scene.

Gary Jordaan, BCI Security’s media liaison, explained, “Our Incident Support Unit was first on scene and was faced with multiple casualties with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Within minutes of arriving on the scene, several ambulance services started arriving including our medical partners, ER24, who started triage”.

The passengers were transported to several hospitals for further treatment after being initially treated by various paramedics at the scene.

“On assessment, paramedics found that fifteen people had been injured, several of them critically.The patients were treated for their injuries, and the critically injured provided with advanced life support interventions, before they were transported to nearby provincial hospitals for further care,” Meiring explained.

He concluded by saying that the details surrounding this incident were not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
