Illegal connection kills frogs

Residents were warned by the company to be careful when taking walks through long grass.

A number of frogs have died in their own habitat after being exposed to an illegal connection on a plot in Honeydew.

The incident was reported by Drift Reaction Security Company after a resident was saddened by the death of the frogs that were found lying in the veld during the weekend.

What was more shattering for the resident, according to the company, was the fact that her friend’s dog had suffered an electrical shock prior to this incident.

“This is extremely worrying as almost a fifth of frog species in South Africa are under threat of extinction and these frogs were clearly electrocuted.

The dog did not suffer any permanent injury but this could have lethal consequences for residents as well as animals,” the company pointed out.

The incident follows the death of two children in Zandspruit who were killed by illegally connected wires in the area.

Residents were warned by the company to be careful when taking walks where there is long grass.
