City is aware of backlog and will resolve it asap
'I commit to providing constant communication on the progress made and any challenges met until this issue has been resolved'
“I am taking steps to ensure that our facilities across the City are maintained and restored to a condition that will allow the residents the optimum usage of the facilities,” said the MMC for Community Development, councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba.
She went on to say that the DA-led coalition in the City of Johannesburg has, since taking over governance, been committed to not only improving residents’ experience of the City, but also achieving better service delivery through service excellence.
“In July this year, I embarked on a tour of all the City’s recreational centres and swimming pools to ascertain the level of repairs and maintenance in the facilities. I was disappointed to see the state of disrepair in our facilities despite the Repairs and Maintenance budget that remains unspent year after year. In addition to this, I have received rightful complaints from many residents about the state of the City’s facilities,” she said.
Sifumba also stated that she wants to reassure residents that she, as the political head of the Department, is aware of these issues and is taking steps to ensure that facilities such as City Parks are maintained and restored to a condition that will allow the residents the optimum usage of the facilities.
She mentioned that she has been, and will continue to meet with the relevant stakeholders in the City to see that this issue is speedily resolved so that all residents can experience the best of our City’s services.
“I would like to apologise to the residents of the City for the inconvenience caused as a result of this inaction, and ask for our residents’ patience and understanding as the department and implementing agents are carrying out the necessary repairs and maintenance. I commit to providing constant communication on the progress made and any challenges met until this issue has been resolved,” she added.
